Development of the Printing Industry

The reproduction of text and images existed for many centuries to date. Known to the world as printing, this process had a great influence in the improvement of communication between people and among cultures. Back then, printing was first conducted with the use of woodblocks. The ancient civilisation would engrave text and images on pieces of wood to express an idea or a thought. However, because of the detailed process involved in this type of printing, the first authors and printers started to seek for new ways to make printing more efficient.

Thanks to Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the movable printing machine back in the 1450s, the printing business has developed into a more advanced level. This invention then led to the birth of the offset, which is the most commonly used printing technology used today. Newspapers, magazines, and books that people currently see around are printed through this process.

With today's fast research and innovation efforts of humanity, there are already other advanced printing technologies that are made available to the general public. For instance, the introduction of digital printing has made the printing industry more known not only to industrial entities, but to residential consumers as well. With digital printing, the reproduction of text and image can be done without the use of gigantic printing machines. Since digital printing has provided a more low-cost and efficient printing solutions for business and private needs, this sector of the printing industry has continued to contribute to the positive industry performance of the whole printing business.
